Organized PE curriculum can happen in a variety of spaces. Design characteristics included in identified PE spaces contain ample storage for equipment and student daily items, access to restrooms and water fountains, and large areas to move, run, play, and stretch. PE may utilize programmed outdoor space but shall be usable in all-weather scenarios (protection from wind, sun, and rain). If weather conditions do not allow for outdoor PE, conditioned interior space shall be provided.  These should be large MPRs (multi-purpose rooms) at the elementary level and have the ability to house multiple programs.  Middle and high schools should have dedicated gymnasiums.

Storage

PE spaces should contain ample lockable storage for equipment and student daily items.  Separate storage with direct access to the outside should be provided for recess equipment.

Large Indoor Areas

It is essential that PE spaces have large areas to move, run, play, and stretch, with the ability to house multiple classes at one time.  It should accommodate the needs of students in SPED programs.  Built-in projection and sound system are required for presentations and direct instruction.the ability to house multiple classes at one time
